⚾️ A Huge MLB Heater And Big New Things At Probly

Four +800 Or Better HRs This Week?? Plus Email Exclusive WNBA Bets!

Long time no talk! We had to skip last week’s Probly Email due to a presentation for a local investor group — which I’ll talk about in our Company/Product Updates at the end of the email — but I’m back on the grind today amidst a wild week.

In particular, it’s been a great week for Probly’s data, including tweets I’m happy to see from paying customers like our guy Purple Yoshi:

It was a +16u week in all the bets in content, which makes it easier to promote the product. It’s honestly nuts how many home runs have hit as well, including four different +800 or better HRs in the daily Best Bet videos on YouTube. I remember from my DFS hosting days how pronounced it was when MLB hits Summer with the ball flying out of the park but it’s been nice to see it materialize this much on the betting side now.

With that in mind, go check out Probly. We’ve got a slick new homepage and even a blog with some betting-focused content from me, as well as Probly-specific posts. You can also see how Probly works and a video demo from me!

Check it out and get 50% off RIGHT NOW with promo code FIRST! All our pre-game data for under $10 for your first month!

Today, we’ll take another run through the day’s MLB bets, back to some bonus EMAIL EXCLUSIVE ones for the WNBA and a lot of product and company updates! It’s your Probly Email for June 21st, 2024! - @ChrisSpags

So let’s see what we’ve got in the card for today with our MLB Top 10 bets:

Probly Product Updates

If you’re checking out Probly for the first time, make sure to check out our post on optimal settings at the new Probly Blog.

Productwise, the big change is our new homepage/landing page setup that you can see at Probly.com. We took way too long to do this but we’re hoping this will increase our SEO as well as allow us to better layout the value proposition of Probly — and provide a resource for people to understand it how to use it better.

It’s one of those dumb things where we should have started with this, especially given my background in generating a lot of traffic as a content creator. But we at one point had a separate landing page on our ProblyApp.com page (which now just redirects to Probly) — it’s one of those cases of overthinking AND underthinking that sometimes kill you when creating a startup from scratch.

Now, the Probly app itself will load at app.probly.com/home and you should experience no issues with the changeover (clear your browser cache if you get a weird blank screen on your first load of the homepage).

We also launched the new sportsbook filtering menu I mentioned last time we were here, which will hopefully make things a little easier UX wise for people to understand we have a bunch of sportsbooks.

On the company front, the most exciting new thing is we got into noted angel investor Jason Calacanis’s Founder University. We started a bit behind the Cohort we’re in because we got intro’d to one of the program’s leaders and our company is a little further ahead than many others there (a rare treat). But we’re mostly trying to stay busy and sharpen our irons while we keep trying to grow revenue and subscribers.

Part of the reason we opted for this move is because, well, I felt really discouraged after last Friday’s presentation for a large, local investment group.

It was likely the best presentation I’ve done so far. We received coaching from two of this investor group’s board of directors which helped me improve our presentation deck as well as my own efforts illustrating it, particularly me trying to slow myself down. We also got feedback forms from people there and almost all of them were positive about me and the presentation, albeit with some of the usual questions you get.

That said, it was a room where we were competing for investor attention with a company doing antigen vaccines, another company doing a first-ever solution for something called the “suicide disease” aka trigeminal neuralgia, and a brilliant wedding company making millions that merges together your venue with your flowers and catering/etc to make it one bill/interface. There were a lot of great companies presenting in a way that speaks a lot more to the local Philly area scene, which is B2B and healthcare dominant.

As I mentioned last time we did an email, it’s hard not to compare yourself to others in these pitch rooms even though you shouldn’t because each company and investment opportunity is singular. That said, despite several pleasant convos, this did not lead directly to a check from someone in the room.

It’s frustrating at this point because each week I gain more clarity on Probly’s approach, my approach as a founder for both customers and for investors, and what we need to do. But because we have yet to hit the crush of revenue you need to raise investment in 2024 — despite a lot more success than the average B2C company that’s been selling things for just 8 months — we are stuck in no man’s land. You need a lead investor to help herd the checks from people who are interested but could go either way. And we have been unable to find that person or group.

The stress is real. All we can do is continue to push, plug holes and build new stuff while we try to keep our current customers delighted, and hope there’s enough money to pay AWS and our data partners at OddsJam monthly.

That said, I’m shockingly not discouraged. Moments like these usually make me more steeled in my approach. I know what we have, what our customers have when they use the product correctly, and what this industry needs to help people find more success when most betting products just want to rip you off.

“If it were easy, anyone would do it” is the common startup mantra. It’s not easy — and honestly, it’s more like God Mode on a video game with the difficulty level we’ve had to face. But I’m doing it. And we’ll keep doing it.

If you guys encounter any issues not covered here or want to provide feedback, you can email me [email protected].

farewell for now

As always, thanks to all of you who read all the way down here. I know the Product/Company Updates went long today but I try to be as honest as I can about what I/we experience here in the journey. Ultimately, everything boils down to the fact that I’ve just got to be a better salesman.
